How to get FTP access to your hosting account?
The File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a standard network protocol used for the transfer of computer files between a client and server on a computer network.
To connect to your hosting account and get access to your site files you will need your FTP login details. They are should be available in your hosting account like cPanel, Plesk, DirectAdmin, H-Sphere, Webmin, ISPmanager and etc. For example, on a cPanel go to User Area under My Accounts at the Information & Settings page. Your main FTP login details are the same as your cPanel username and password.
You will need the following details:
FTP Hostname - This is the hosting server name.
FTP Username - The main FTP username is the same as your cPanel username.
FTP Password - You need to use your cPanel password.
The FTP port - The default FTP port is 21.
You can also create new FTP users for temporary access of third parties to your site files.
Note: We recommend:
- to be careful and don't give FTP access for dubious persons;
- to make complete files and databases backup before giving FTP access to third persons;
- to create new FTP users for temporary access of third persons and to remove it when work is done.
If you can't find FTP access in your hosting panel, contact your web host and ask them for this information.<< Back
